Basically ... You're bringing a word to an attention that might has to be important with mood or theme of a poem.

    Explanation:

This might be complicated to explain, so if I say "Our hero, our hero Dragonborn claims a warrior's heart." Now if I was to annotate this you have to make a note, right here I am annotating a Dragonborn claims a warrior's heart. So it would involve romance I think that might be a mood. Next is the theme, now remember theme can be a lesson. If you call 911 and making jokes and pranks they will disconnect your line, and if you're in trouble in a danger situation when you to call they won't answer. So the lesson is "If you play jokes on somebody they won't believe you anymore, you will lose their trust." So this what is to annotate a poem, just trying get an example of a sentence and decide what mood/theme is, but way back when I do it, all we did is shorten the poem and write a note on a side.
