    The correct answer is D.

    Answers A-C are conclusions that can be drawn from the story.

    Even though the story WAS published in 1948, the reader would not be able to conclude that from the story. Jackson wrote the story in such a way as to make it timeless. It could take place now, in 2018, or even in 1928.
