In Elizabeth Baines' "Compass and Torch," why has the father decided to go camping with the boy?

He is divorced from the mother, and this is his idea of what he can do during one of his rare visitations.

He believes the boy is not manly enough and needs to learn about the great outdoors.

He likes to irritate the mother, and he knows this is one good way to do it.

He wants to make a contrast between himself and the boy's new father, Jim, and he knows Jim would never do something like this.
