Poetry is in the first place an art form that is very old, it takes you back to ancient times. So it has a special place in history for a long time ago. It was meant to express emotions or tell a story, basically, poetry is to communicate something in organized and well-written words. Poetry has its own structure and also certain rules that poets need to follow in order to make a "good" poem. This is important because with rules and structures you can verify if a poem is good or if it has good quality but it depends on the author and the type of poetry he or she is writing. For this reason, it is very important to understand the forms, devices, and rules of poetry. Poetry is also known for work with stanzas that is equal to a verse. A verse is a group of lines whose patterns repeat in the poem. One excerpt is this one taken from Samuel Taylor Coleridge to show the pattern:

    Water, water, everywhere,

And all the boards did shrink,

    Water, water, everywhere,

    Nor any drop to drink.

This poem shows the general structure is short, that it could have one or more meanings and the choice of words to explain an idea. One of the ways to verify if this poem is correct or not is to read the works of other known poets. It is very difficult to say that someone can determine if a poem is good or quality because some poets have their own style and rhymes but in general it is possible to say if it is well written with the rules of poetry. In this excerpt, in particular, the poet talks about a lot of water using literal meaning through the poem but in the final sentence, he is underlying the meaning.
