Genetically modified (GM) foods are those snacks or food we usually eat made from corn, soy, corn, or other plants that are grown from seeds that undergo genetic transformation or enhancement of the DNA. This is done to increase yield of the crop, to increase resistance to pests and extreme weather conditions.

However, what will happen to people who ingest these genetically modified foods? Are these foods safe for human consumption? The answer is certainly ambiguous. The proponents of this technology would not be totally sure about telling us the side effects.

Studies have shown that allergies, antibiotic resistance, and cancer are only some of the side effects of eating GM foods. Although these negative effects are not founded on long term researches yet, the rise in cases of these health issues in the US and around the world are alarming. Thus, genetically modified foods are not really purely harmless.
