Why is the title "fear" is appropriate for book 1 of native son

Bigger Thomas, in part 1 of Native Son, stands as a small boy in the larger white world around him. He lives in the shadows of the city, the dark movie theater, the shadied alleyway, the dimly light apartment with his mother and sister. In part 1, Bigger moves around the edges of a world that he doesn't belong to and can only watch from the shadows. Bigger is young and is fearful of his place in the this larger world.
