Anne Bradstreet, - 1612-1672 - was born in a wealthy puritan family in North Hampton, England. She could be considered unorthodox due to the fact she was a highly educated woman for the time she lived in, and this was already a not very common situation for a woman in the 1600s.

The reason why she is considered unorthodox is because she would write her poems based on the woman's role in the society of the time. Considering she was a puritan and the time she lived in, writing about this matters was a challenge to the conservative and predominant ideals of that time. Additionally, she wrote about politics and history, something really unusual for a woman in her time, and she also used to be quite sarcastic in her wirtings, which considering her background was also really unorthodox.
