If by Volume 1 you mean Chapter 1, then the major themes in Volume 1 of Frankenstein would be about life and existence, revenge, family and childhood, and death. The first chapter narrates about Victor and his dying because he was looking for Frankenstein - the monster he created who killed everyone he loved.
