Goodman Brown's decision to go into the wilderness echoes Jesus (and other prophets) going into the wilderness to be tempted by evil.

    Explanation:

Nathaniel Hawthorne's short story "Young Goodman Brown" tells the story of a man going into the forest to be tempted. This journey he had to take was an "evil purpose" which he did not want to reveal to his wife Faith. Like in the story, the Biblical story of how Jesus Christ was tempted by the devil in the wilderness is similar to that of Brown being tempted by the devil in the forest. And each time Brown resists the temptation, rather clinging for the sake of his wife Faith, it is also along the same vein of Christ resisting the temptation of Satan in delivering him false promises. Goodman Brown's decision to go into the wilderness echoes Jesus (and other prophets) going into the wilderness to be tempted by evil.
