    The answer is B!

because the definition for paraphrase is to express the meaning using different words to get greater clarity (better understanding).

Make the language easier to understand

A paraphrase of the text requires the writer to look carefully at the text. After reading the text closely a paraphrase needs the writer to restate the meaning in his or her own words. When one uses their own words, they have a better understanding of the text. The purpose of a paraphrase is to keep the original meaning of the text the same so nothing should change. This eliminates A and C as possibilities. D is also wrong because it's not focused solely on the characters.
