The major theme in Orwell's well-known work is dystopia. His writing purpose is to provide cautionary tales to alert his readers to what could be a logical result of the issues he sees in society. Both Animal Farm and 1984 depict bleak futures. In the case of Animal Farm, a parable of what he sees as the dangers of communism, he aimed to discourage western adoption of the socialist model.
