People use euphemisms a lot when they talk about difficult subjects, such as death and disease. Why do you think they do that?

    This device is used mostly when writing about matters such as sex, violence, death, crimes, and other things that we would consider to be "embarrassing". The purpose of euphemisms is to substitute unpleasant and severe words with more genteel ones, to try our best to mask the harshness.
