In the given excerpt from the story, "But Damon did not want Pythias to die. He pleaded with him to allow the execution to continue, and Dionysus watched in disbelief as each friend eagerly sought to give up his life for the other," Dionysius is so moved by the bond of friendship between the two men that he pardons Pythias.

Dionysius had never seen such loyalty in the bond of friendship where each friend pleaded with the other to give up his life for him. He was deeply moved by this display of loyalty and set both Damon and Pythias free.
