    Explanation:

    In the book, August gets laughed at and bullied by all of the kids in the school and nobody wanted to be friends with him because of how his face looked. Only two kids were his friends. And to him, those to friends were miracle workers because when nobody else hung out with him, those two friends did. When he was being bullied, those two friends stood up for him. Those two friends didn't look at his face and say "I don't like you". Instead they looked at how he treated people and decided to say "Hmm, this kid is really nice. Maybe I will hangout with him."
