Coatis are raccoon-like mammals native to South and Central America. Although they are wild animals, coatis are often fed by tourists. This encourages recurring behavior with unfortunate consequences: Many people have been injured in coati encounters and have needed to get shots to ward off the risk of rabies, while coatis have grown obese. Park officials have determined how they are going to deal with these problems. Recently, they posted signs warning tourists not to feed the animals. As a result, coatis returned to the forests to hunt for bugs
