    D) the invasion of the Vikings.

    Explanation:

The main reason why Old Norse words were introduced into English was due to the Viking invasions to Britain. The Vikings first invaded Britain in AD 793, and this exchange continued until the last invasion, which took place in 1066 when William the Conqueror became King of England. The Vikings brought many things with them, including traditions and habits. One of these aspects of culture that the Vikings brought with them was their language, which had an important influence on English.
