The Soviet myth is that the communist government exists for the benefit of the people in so much that it frees people from all sorts of oppression and subjugation. However, it does just the opposite-people are oppressed for the benefit of the state and no matter how hard people work, they see little benefit. This form of oppression can be seen within _Animal Farm_ in how the pigs subjugate the rest of the animals solely for their own benefit, and regardless of how hard the animals work, the only creatures to see things get better are the pigs-the ruling class.
