Esperanza, like other women, is contained in a patriarchal society that devalues women and places them in situations of inferiority and submission. However, unlike most of these characters, Esperaza has a family base that empowers him to seek a better and promising future.

    Explanation:

"The House on Mango Street" shows a society where women are victims of a strong concept of the superiority of men. This is a patriarchal society where most girls are violence from their parents, are limited to housework and have the only way to change their lives, find a man to marry, however, many times this marriage is not happy, because of abuses that husbands have on them.

Esperanza also lives in this society and despite being a possible victim to this oppressive system, she is encouraged to seek a better, but happy and egalitarian future. This is because Esperanza has a peaceful family base, where she does not suffer any type of psychological or physical violence, which gives her the strength to pursue specific and beneficial goals.
