The phrase sounds similar to "around my neck of the woods". Both are referring to a place, usually where someone grew up, and how things are there. It could be used in a sentence like this, "I was suprised to see Billy here. He usually doesn't come around to my back lane." It's basically a different way of saying neighborhood or area. : D
