The official name for the heritage site at Howick is the Nelson Mandela Capture Site. This site was made in honor to the history of Africa when Nelson Mandela was captured on the same spot. This was opened to the public by the President of SouthAfrica, Jacob Zuma during its inauguration day on August 5, 2012. It was made by the uMngeni Municipality together with the Department of Co-operative Government and Traditional Affairs, the KwaZulu-Natal Heritage Council, and Apartheid Museum.
