Many artistic representations of the Inferno focus on the stories that are intensely romantic, such as the story of Paolo and Francesca. It tells us that people are fascinated by love, even if it is represented within the context of hell. William Blake, Dante Rossetti, Ary Scheffer have all painted this very dramatic scene and envisioned the dam. nation of two lovers, with sympathy for their fate.
