The students' rights did were violated. As they planned to perform it off-campus, it is none of the school's business. Therefore, the principal doesn't have the authority to reject the play or not to allow the students. So the students had their right to perform the kind of play they wanted because it wouldn't take place at school, it would be at a local recreation center. The principal is abusing the power that he has within the school, to make decisions about things that are out of his control.
