Sustainable energy is energy which can be sustained, or last. It has a seemingly endless supply. Sustainable energy also refers to renewable in that will replenish itself. Water, wind, and solar energy are all considered sustainable in that they are seemingly unlimited.

However, oil has a finite end. Once all of the oil in the world is used, there is no more. The oil fields do not replenish themselves. Nature does not create more oil. When it is used it is burned up and there is no way for it to come back. Unlike when water is used, it does not actually disappear. Even water that evaporates returns to the earth as rain.
