Jim is the narrator of the story and his intelligence make his storytelling effective and interesting. Jim is an orphan who uses a voice that tells the story of a boy who is lost in Nebraska.

When he gets older, he becomes a lawyers and his voices changes into a more content man. He still has the same character but he keeps more to himself and his introspection.
