    A compound sentence is composed of two sentences connected together with some form of conjunction, for example. As there is one period, there is only a single sentence.

    Assuming you know already that a predicate is essentially everything in the sentence that follows the noun (in this case 'students,' then you can see that the predicate here is compound ('are completing' ... and 'are studying' ...)
