    The answer is C.

    Elisa has to tell him several times she has no work to do. After the first time she says she has no work for him, he keeps suggesting different things he could fix: scissors, pots, etc. Instead of accepting her initial response, he pleads with her to find him work, even saying he might not have anything to eat for supper that night.
