    4p + 4y = $ or 4 (p+y) = $

To find the total cost of the pretzels, you must multiply the cost of the pretzels with the number bought. Since there were 4 pretzels bought and they cost p dollars, this would be represented with 4p. To find the total cost of the drinks, you must multiply the cost of the drinks with the number bought. Since there were 4 drinks bought and they cost y dollars, this would be represented with 4y. To find the total cost of everything purchased, you add the total cost of pretzels (4p), to the total cost of the drinks (4y). The equation is 4p+4y=total cost
