In this text, the author Eudora Welty foreshadows her epiphany, as well as her eventual writing style. We learn that Welty was very shy and quiet when she was young. Because she spoke very little, she would listen and observe much. Her observant nature, as well as her calm personality, allowed her to learn about interpersonal relationships. Human relationships would become the main subject of her epiphany as well as the dominant subject in her writing.
