Which sentence uses commas correctly?

a. We grow lettuce in a backyard garden but, we buy most of our vegetables at the grocery store.

b. Some city dwellers grow vegetables in community gardens, and they use no pesticides or chemicals.

c. Our friends have a big garden, and, they give away or preserve the vegetables they can't eat.

d. Many deer and rabbits live in the woods nearby and sometimes they eat the vegetables in our garden.

    There should never be a comma after "and" or "but" - unless there is an insertion.

    (so we can exclude answers a) and c))

    There can be a comma before "and" as in b) but only when the two phrases are independent from each other, so not in this case - here the comma separates the two verbs which belong to the same subject

    So the correct answer is d) !
