First you should convert the feet into inches just because that should make it easier on yourself.

So 12 feet = 144 inches

If Angie has to cut the pieces in 5 inches each

you should do 144 divided by 5 to get your answer which should be

28-5 inch pieces with 4 inches of string left over.
