During the reading of the story, you may have found passages that were too good to keep to yourself. You wanted to make someone else laugh at them, too. Twain's sense of the ridiculous, quick wit, and humorous exaggerations remain popular even today; and he is frequently quoted.

Copy three sentences or parts of sentences that you found particularly funny and would like to share with someone else.

"Then when Smiley's dog come to make a grab the other dog's back legs, he saw in a minute how there was a problem." This sentence is funny in its context: Smiley's dog is used to winning fights by biting the opponent's back leg, except this time, it finds itself facing a dog which just so happens not to have any back legs. The situation comedy is created by the fact that the odds for Simley's dog to meet a dog without back legs were ridiculously small, and yet it happened. For that reason alone, Smiley's dog doesn't even try to fight anymore, and loses. "Smiley said all a frog wanted was education, and he could do almost anything." This is what Smiley said to justify his psending months trying to teach his new frog how to jump on command. It is funny because Smiley is attributing human qualities (wanting education) to the animal in an attempt to sound like an expert, but it only makes him sound even crazier. "He told me to wait but I did not think that more stories about Jim Smiley would give me any more information about Leonidas W. Smiley, and so I started to walk away." This sentence is reminding the reader that everything he/she has just read was about someone completely different from what was supposed to be the subject of the story, and it is funny because the narrator finds himself with no more information about his friend Leonidas Smiley than he had before he met Wheeler.
