What does the author most likely mean by "memory is an abstract painting"? We remember events in vague and indistinct ways. We usually respond to art that shows places we remember. We tend to remember artwork we saw when we were young. We are more likely to remember colorful people and places.

    They must likely referred to how our memories tend to remember events in different ways, not exactly as how they happened, our mind is rather selective with memories, disposing of those it deems useless, so we mostly remeber events that stand out from the rest, that's why it's abstract, becuase it is molded by our perspective
