What does "subtle brute" mean? It's from the text The Dark Tower. by Countee Cullen

    I believe the answer is:

    A brute is a savagely violent person or animal. When you add the adjective, subtle, to modify the noun, brute, it means the brute is mediocre or serene. Not so aggressive as a normal brute would be.
