In "the great gatsby" why will gatsby never be accepted by the likes of daisy and tom?

Gatsby never accepted the likes of Tom because it was evident that she never fell in love with Tom. She only married Tom because she needs it, and she felt guilty about what she has done. She already is in love with another man however she needs to assure Tom that she is faithful on him.
