    Edgar's treatment to Heathcliff mirrors that (since Edgar and Linton is the same person because Linton is the last name of Edgar)

    The answer is Mr. Earnshaw treated Hindley because when they invited Catherine and Heathcliff to their house they just welcomed Catherine and stunned Heathcliff because he is just an orphan and doesn't have the blood of an Earnshaw just like what Mr. Earnshaw did to Hindley that he replaced his affection towards Hindley to Heathcliff.
