    Solve for x

    8x + 15 = 3x - 20

    Add 20 to both sides. It should become

    8x + 35 = 3x

    Then minus 8x on both sides, which is now

    35 = - 5x

    Divide both sides by "negative" 5 to get x by itself

    X = - 7

    Check your answer by substitution. (Plug - 7 for x)
