In 1984, How does the Party use war to maintain and justify its existence and control over society? Consider this quote from the Book: "it follows that the three super-states cannot conquer one another, but would gain no advantage by doing so".

    The Party always observes all natives for any indication of defiance or thought-wrongdoing yet tries to seem kind and concerned instead of savage and obtrusive. It embraces the defensive, consoling persona of 'The government' and the trademark: "Big Brother is Watching You"
