The Women's Liberation Movement was the principal factor for this in the 60s. Women demanded equal rights, as men had, for themselves. They started going to universities and graduating, thus specializing in different fields. They started getting interested in politics, and were candidates for important positions in the government. The most famous one was Indira Gandhi, the Prime Minister of India. In the past, women were only examined by male doctors. Today, the situation has reversed, Men are examined by female doctors, a fact unimaginable 30 years ago.
