An infinitesimal eternity I must endure

As I stride painfully among the crowd

They're looking at me, of this I'm sure

And the noise gets unbearably loud

Each silenced whisper from inside the din

Every glance I receive from amid the throng

Sends a roiling heat wave across my skin

And methinks my own existence is wrong

"Do not be shaped by judgement of others"

Says a gentle voice inside my head.

I bite back tears from the words of my mother

With my sanity hanging by a thread.

I know what they think doesn't shape me

But some things are easier said than done.

It's safe to say that my passionate plea

    Is sincerity second to none:

I long to be just another human being

So I can quietly live my own life

But I darken with fear that what they are seeing

Is just an existence boned with a knife.
