What is the effect of sexual selection upon male overconsumption in the presence or absence of a woman?

There was a significant increase in the amount of pizza and salad consumed for males when in the presence of a female than males dining with males, thus male will consume more regardless of healthy or unhealthy options; whereas females ate the same regardless of their dining partner's sex. Although there are no main effects for sex or group type, there was an interaction effect between the sex of respondent and their group type.

What is the interpretation of these findings with regard to the initial question?

The result is that males consume more food when in the presence of females.

It could be assumed that males are compelled (subconsciously) to eat more because they are nervous/tense around female companions. Or it could also be (presumably) because males are unconsciously trying to assert strength and being active.

The result needs more context. How was this acquired? Were the males on a date with females? What is the context of the relationship?
