What mood has the writer attempted to create in this paragraph? Oh! No mortal could support the horror of that countenance. A mummy again endued with animation could not be so hideous as that wretch. I had gazed on him while unfinished; he was ugly then, but when those muscles and joints were rendered capable of motion, it became a thing such as even Dante could not have conceived.'

The mood is what the author sets to get the same emotions from the reader. Aside from the flow and rhythm, the mood adds color to the story. In this case, the author wants convey the mood of horror. The author does it by using words and phrases like 'Oh!', 'horror', 'hideous', 'Dante could not have conceived'. All of these words depict the element of fear.
