    in 1767, Townshend was Chancellor of the Exchequer, and after the Stamp Act, he proposed that the Parliament could gain profit from the COlonists without causing protests, convincing them taht the taxes were not external. this was known as the Twonshend acts, which applied taxes in woods such as glass, paint, paper and tea exported.
