What is the function of antagonist in a story

    The antagonist of a story is the character who actively opposes/is hostile to the protagonist. Basically, the antagonist is the "Bad guy" of the story. An example of an antagonist would be the Red Queen in Alice and Wonderland, or the Joker in Batman.
