The Declaration of Independence is the instrument that embodied the arguments in favor of America's break up with Great Britain. It is the testament of America's freedom and independence from the hands of Britain.
The instrument which was championed by Thomas Jefferson and later approved in 1776 bears arguments on why the colonies of the United States should be declared independent from Britain. It describes the Fundamental Rights of American citizens and their inalienable nature.
The Declaration of Independence further states that the American colonies are capable of protecting her rights and the rights of the citizens, hence the need for a break up from Britain. The document remains the bedrock of America's Independence, and the very foundation of the American Constitution and the Bill of Rights.
