Dexter met Judy Jones first time at the golf club in Black Bear Lake, when Judy was eleven-years-old. He fall in love with her, and he pursued her. Judy belonged to a rich family, and she had many other beaus as well.

Dexter and Judy were separated for eighteen months and engaged. But Judy came back to Dexter, only to break his dreams once again. Dexter called off his marriage and again left alone when Judy left him.

Till the end of the story, the readers can find that Dexter's love for Judy never changed. Dexter's love for Judy was neither influenced by the values and ideas of the time nor did it changed. It remained the same over years.
