In the story The princess and the puma, Henry draws from traditional stories several event, themes and characters from where he was able to create his own new style and pattern of writing.

Myth such as the fight between hero and beast, Henry draws from it and instead of the hero of succeeding, he was saved by a woman. An Hero has being said to be a strong man who almost no one can defeat but in his story a lady rescued an Hero. This is a new traditional subject different from the old way of reporting it.

He also introduced into the modern Mexican setting the the warriors also known as might, lion, Royal family which are not originally part of Mexican modern setting but a traditional setting into his story.

O Henry brought about a new Ideas of his own from the themes, traditional stories bringing about a new style.
