A boat can travel 46mph in still water. If it travels 440 miles with the current in the same length of time it travels 296 miles against the current, what is the speed of the current?

    With this formula we will obtain the other formulas to solve the problem

    First we must know how long the boat was traveling.

    The formula for TIME at constant speed is

    Time = Distance / Speed

    = 440 miles / 46 mph

    = 9,565 Hours

    Once the time is obtained, we must obtain the speed. Modifying the previous formula

    Speed = Distance / Time

    = 440 m / 9,565 hours

    = 46mph
