The literal meaning of pouring poison is a person's ear in "Hamlet" is that they are telling lies to people to mislead them and as a result they are pouring poisons lies in that persons ear. The symbolic meaning of pouring poison in a person's ear, reminds of the symbolic meaning of the snake in The Garden of Eden. The snake stood for lies, misleading a person, and evil, which ties into the meaning of pouring poison in a person's ear. How? Well the poison be poured into that person's ear is to mislead them into doing wrong, or to do things that were against there better judgment, which is exactly what happened to Eve in The Garden of Eden. The snake (aka the Devil) talked to Eve about The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil.
