Tahereh Saffarzadeh (1936-2008) was an Iranian poet and outstanding university professor. Her poetry has been accurately representing socio-political issues in Iran and other nations.

Her aim was always to promote the culture of her country against Westernization, and contribute to it through literature, as the way to produce a permanent legacy.

At her early years as a writer, she was comitted to expressing the feelings of a woman who aims to break restrictive social codes, producing works which resemble those of Farrokhzad. In 1963, she divorced and moved to the US.

In 1970s she returned to Iran and became a devout Muslim. Her poetry was impregnated with political and religous fervour, and spoke for revolution. Her collection Allegiance With Wakefulness from 1980, attacks Western values and claims for Islam as the only solution for Iranian issues.
