How did booth implicate his fellow conspirators even before the deed was done?

Booth was part of a major conspiracy, he was eventually sold a flat bottom boat to make his escape, but h e was later arrested for his part but subsequently released. In 1893, he wrote a 126-page book telling his part in the Lincoln assassination.
